Aimee Molloy’s The Perfect Mother is one of the big thrillers of the season and it’s an exciting tense ride that was well worth waiting for. If you’re not a big fan of reading (why are you here? But seriously…) then the motion picture is coming soon with Kerry Washington in the lead role.
I think the movie will probably be a watered-down version and you’re best off with the print copy. Why? Because psychological thrills are always best when they play out in your head rather than on screen.
Entertainment Weekly is a big fan of the book too. They said, “Whip-smart…. Very much in the mold of recent best-sellers like The Girl on the Train and The Woman in the Window, but it’s also a sharply drawn take on the cult of modern parenting and the particular pressure women face—from within and without—to pull it all off, flawlessly.”
This is one of my favorite novels of recent memory. The only downside is that this will make you nervous to take your eyes away from your children even for a second.
