Most parents learn the hard way that sleep is terribly underrated. Before you had a kid, sure, you thought you cared about sleep, but it wasn’t the most precious, elusive, “one thing you would kill for” activity it becomes after the child is born. At the same time, infants and toddlers don’t seem to appreciate sleep at all, even though it’s critical for their development.
Newborns and infants need to feed every few hours because their tiny stomachs can only hold so much food. This is directly at odds with our need to sleep throughout the night. Unless you can afford to have someone else nurse your child, there’s no way to escape the round-the-clock feeding. The Sleepeasy Solution: The Exhausted Parent’s Guide to Getting Your Child to Sleep from Birth to Age 5 might be the one you need to get your baby sleep through the night.
Jueles on Amazon is a fan, “When I gave birth to my now 4 month old son I swore I would never let him cry alone in the crib. Fast forward 4 months, my sons naps were frustratingly short and he had now started waking up at night after 30 minutes and then wouldn’t go back to sleep for hours no matter what we did. After his night feedings he would lay awake for sometimes 3 hours before going back to sleep…. I had reached my limit. I was miserable and so was he because he just wasnt sleeping well and he was always so whiny and difficult. My friend had recommended this book and reading it really made me feel like I had a good plan in getting my precious baby to get the sleep he needed. The first night was rough, he cried for over an hour then slept for 30 minutes and then woke up and cried for another hour. I was in tears by the time he finally fell asleep. I think it was mostly my fault because I think I put him down a little too early and he just wasnt tired enough. The next day I followed the schedule exactly and his naps went great!! He fell asleep almost immediately every time (and every nap since) and slept for an hour or more. Night two was great (!!!), he cried/fussed for 5 minutes when I did my check in and I was dreading how long it would go on this time but I never had to go back in, he was asleep in 7 minutes total and slept for 7.5 hours. Please note I am still feeding him once a night. I will wean soon when he’s a little older and I know he will be sleeping through the night. Today is the third day and his naps were fantastic and he was asleep for the night in 6 minutes. He is such a happy baby during the day now, no more whining, just smiles. I am so grateful that my friend recommended this to me, it is a sleep saver!!!”
