It’s always nice to start a new series at the beginning and this is where The Matrimonial Advertisement by Mimi Matthews brings us – to the start of the Parish Orphans of Devon Books. This is a high-quality Victorian romance which really gets to grips with the relationships between its well drawn and interesting characters.
Helena Reynolds needs out of London and she’s willing to do what it takes to get away. Justin Thornhill an army captain offers her a chance of a new life but while he is tall, dark and handsome – he’s definitely not your typical romantic hero. He’s an angry, bitter man with a dark past and Helena’s job will be to bridge the gap between him and the rest of the world.
