The First Time I Said Goodbye was described by Woman’s Way as “Like a hug in a book!” and that’s pretty much how I felt about it too. It answers the question; “Would you hold on tighter if you knew you were saying goodbye [to someone you love] forever?”
In 1959, this is the choice that Stella Hegarty finds herself facing when she falls in love with a US Marine and then everything goes wrong. She’s confronted with the idea that she may have said goodbye to him for both the first and last time. Years later she will learn that sometimes you have to say goodbye in order to get what you need in life. It’s absolutely brilliant.
